Culture and Festivals of Edinburgh
The Edinburgh Festival is a series of events running from the end of July through early September.
The Edinburgh Festival involves many theater productions and classical music performances throughout Edinburgh.
The Edinburgh International Festival has been taken over by the Edinburgh Fringe, a program of arts and shows at 261 venues. Comedy has become a large part of the Fringe with numerous notable comedians getting their break there-often by being the recipient of the coveted Perrier Award.
There is also the Edinburgh Art Festival, the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival and the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
The Edinburgh International Science Festival is held every year in April.
Another famous celebration is the Hogmanay celebration-a large street celebration organized since 1993.
On the night of April 30th, the Beltane Fire Festival takes place in Edinburgh and is inspired by pagan spring fertility celebrations.
