Theatre and Art in Edinburgh
The city of Edinburgh has a number of theaters playing shows year round.
The Royal Lyceum Theatre has its own company, while the King’s theatre, Edinburgh Festival Theatre and the Edinburgh Playhouse have large touring shows. The Traverse Theatre presents more contemporary programs.
Edinburgh is home to Scotland’s five national galleries.
There is a national collection located at the National Gallery of Scotland, as well as the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, the nearby Dean Gallery and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, which focuses on photography and portraits. The Fruitmarket Gallery has a large collection of contemporary art, featuring British and international artists.
